Hello everyone, to clarify I've fielded your questions below.
Monthly vs. Daily Download Allowance
After a thorough review of a large sample of customer feedback (surveys, emails, chats, and phone and social media conversations) regarding our Daily Download Allowance it was apparent that the majority of our customer base preferred managing their own download allowance monthly. Based on this feedback we transitioned from a Daily Download Allowance to our Gen4 Monthly Download Allowance. Now you can schedule those large updates without having to apply Restore Tokens.
With HughesNet Gen4 your total monthly Data Allowance includes two components: 1) A generous anytime Data Allowance that can be utilized at any time, including during peak daytime hours. The amount of your "anytime" allowance depends on the plan you choose. The Power plan comes with 10GB, the Power PRO plan comes with 15GB, and the Power MAX plan comes with 20GB. 2) Each HughesNet Gen4 plan also comes with an equivalent amount of extra Data Allowance called Bonus Byte, which can be utilized during the off-peak, nighttime hours (2AM-8AM in your local time zone.) Bonus Bytes are a value-added feature you can get only with HughesNet Gen4. With Bonus Bytes and the Download Manager tool offered with HughesNet, you can schedule large downloads such as Microsoft software updates to take place during the night so they only use Bonus Bytes and have no impact on your "anytime" Data Allowance. Bonus Bytes are another way HughesNet Gen4 lets you do more than any other satellite Internet service.
How does HughesNet offer more download capacity?
Each HugheNet service plan has a Data Allowance that is larger than other satellite providers. Our Power plan includes a monthly “anytime” Data Allowance of 10 GB, plus an extra 10 GB of “Bonus Bytes” that can be utilized for large downloads or uploads during the off-peak hours of 2AM–8AM. With the Power plan, this gives you up to 20 GB of combined Data Allowance per month — and with the Power MAX plan you can get up to 40 GB per month!
Free Download Zone
The caps for our Bonus Byte method were based on existing customer usage. Most of our customers will not come even close to using their entire monthly allowance. These caps ensure a more equal distribution of usage across the board.
You are correct, not everyone is illegible at this time (soon though). Please give us a call at 866 347 3292 to check illegibility.
Upgrading to Gen4
You will need to upgrade your equipment and select one of the new Power plans. The HughesNet Gen4 Power plans are available only through the EchoStar XVII satellite. Certain geographical areas will not be covered by this satellite in its first months of service; coverage will roll out first in select regions and then gradually expand to include additional areas. To see if HughesNet Gen4 service is available in where you live, visit www.HughesNet.com/Gen4. For further details on upgrading to HughesNet Gen4, call Customer Care at 866-278-2676.
If you are still in your 24 month term, you'll pay $199 for the hardware and then pay the Power service fee of $49.99 plus the $9.99 monthly equipment fee. If you are "out of term," you'll pay $99 for the hardware and then pay the Power service fee of $49.99 plus the $9.99 monthly equipment fee. In either scenario you will have a new 24 month commitment.
If I want to download at night I guess Excede is good but who's to say with all these people ripping movies at night the speeds will allow me to get anything done? Also all these people joining Excede for their night time zone can't be a good thing. I know noone guarantees speeds but still. And another thing their tokens look like they are more expensive (Excede at $10/ GB Hughes at $8/GB) and I like the Hughes download manager ...(I'm not technical) but I hope there's a version coming that will show what we have left during the extra byte zone. It's gona take willpower to control me with the downloads once I have Gen4. I think I'm getting Gen4. I need to figure out what these allowances will get me.
