Introducing the Token Bank – Another HughesNet Service Enhancement!

We’ve recently made a number of great enhancements to your HughesNet® service, and today we are introducing yet another brand-new feature: the Token Bank. With the Token Bank, if you don’t use your FREE Restore Token, you can carry it over to the following month.

The Token Bank Is Great News!
The Token Bank gives you even more freedom to control your Internet experience and download large files when you need to. As a HughesNet member, if you exceed your Download Allowance — the download capacity you have available in a 24-hour period — you can conveniently and instantly restore your service to full speed by using a Restore Token. You already receive one FREE Restore Token per month.

Now, with the Token Bank, if you don’t use your free Restore Token in a given month, you can use it in the following month. And if you don’t use those two tokens in the second month, you’ll have up to three free tokens to redeem in the third month! That gives you more flexibility to download large files while keeping your service running at full speed.

And the best part? The new Token Bank feature is FREE, and there’s nothing you need to do. You can start enjoying it now.

Not only does it work for the HN7000S but the DW7000 and all 9000 too. Now, you don't lose those monthly free tokens. They accumulate up to 3 months.

  I don't think this is fair that I'm only getting 50% download allowance and I cannot access my rollover allowance. Why do this? I'm coming out on the losing end of download allowance. This is not better to me. I liked it better when the meter would reset itself to 100% every 24 hours. This is not fair and was not in my contract. This stinks big time and using up my allowance much quicker.

  All these improvements are great but still do not fulfill the promise made to me by Hughes that I would be able to use Skype. I live in the country, in the middle of nowhere, I have no telephone land line and no cell phone coverage; my electricity comes from solar panels, so my SOLE means of communicating is by satellite Internet and when I contracted the service with HN they assured me I could use VOIP without a problem. Now it seems that Wild Blue with their new satellite will allow me just to do that. Would HN gen4 do the same?

I just wish that HughesNet work make this service available to their VAR customers. They say it's up to the VAR but that makes no sense since we are all paying for a service provided by Hughes and being provided Hughes service. What possible difference would it make to Hughes if they get paid by me or paid by the VAR. Hughes still gets the money but the VAR customer gets screwed!

My post dissapeared so ima repost it. Even though I will probably be canceling my service in a few days due to not being able to work out a deal on the business system. I still want to say thanx for the service enhancements and for this forum and to all the people that are here trying to help others get a good experiance out of their service or just trying help them understand problems they may be having. And a big thanx to Sara and the others for staying in there, taking the crap and keeping on, you all deserve alot of respect and you have it from me. This is another great deal for the customers and another step in the right direction, don't turn it back around and take 2 steps backwards.

  Since I also have WB that would not be a wise choice even their new bird my $84(sales tax) plan drops from 17GB monthly to 15GB, no free time or tokens.
  
  1050 x 3 = 3150MB is quite impressive indeed.

  I switched to millenicom. I got the early bird special with 10 GB 4G service and 10 GB of 3G service (right now I don't get 4G so I get 20 GB of 3G) for $70 a month with no contract. HN gave me a free month of service to make sure I am satisfied and want to cancel my service but from what I have seen so far it is a no contest switch. During prime time I see 750 to 1.5 Mb/s down and 400 Kb/s or more up with pings averaging 90 to 150ms. I might come back after Jupiter gets up and running and they start offering business plans on it but for now I think I will stay with millenicom. It is all going to depend on what they do with the FAP and the speeds on Jupiter as to whether we come back or not and there is a good chance we will have LTE by then on this hotspot so even the speeds won't be a large factor on my decision, mostly caps will decide.

  I want a business plan because it offers lower pings and the speeds stay stable for a longer time than the residential plans but mostly I want it because I have around a quarter of a million chickens on the farm at any givin time and the houses they are in are computer controlled and I use the internet to monitor those houses part time and during storms is really a time I have to keep an eye on em in case of lightning strikes and the 2 watt transmitter and bigger dish doesn't hardly ever have service outages due to weather.

  Thank you for sharing that, it's still in my blood to wonder why.
  I wasn't aware a lower ping, helping others with DSL I'd say Wow that's fast because the response (ping) max the DSL can provide where available not even 700kbps compared to my 1.6Mbps plan.

  The way it was explained to me, and I don't know if it applies to a KA system, is that business customers are commisioned different which I know to be true even on KA and that they are givin a higher priority and thus the congestion doesn't affect customers as much. On my old 7000 2 watt system, even when my speeds had dropped to 300 to 400 Kb/s down, I was still getting pings of 750 to 800 consistantly and it took alot longer for my speeds to drop than most of the residential customers that were on the forums at that time. It was a year or more after spaceway 3 was in use before I saw any service degradation.

  I just wish they would lower their prices down. I feel $71.00 a month is a bit much since us tax payers are the ones that help buy the satellite and all other satellites. With Obama killing our country, jobs are scarce, houses are being foreclosed, I don't know how much longer I can keep HugesNet though I have seen a lot of improvements over this past year I have had their services. I just wish with millions of people using HughesNet, that they could lower the price about $20 less. I can afford $50 vs. $70

  Me thinks the roll over will never arrive for those on the HN7000S. It is taking way toooooooooo long. Big mistake from Hughes, they will suffer because of their stupidity. We ALL pay the SAME therefore we should ALL RECEIVE THE SAME. How about it Hughes are you willing to comment or ???????????????????

  We are continuing to review data after partially rolling out the Download Bank feature to some HN7000S users. We will need to perform some additional network optimizations and capacity changes to ensure performance is not negatively affected before we can continue the rollout. Unfortunately, that means we did not meet our objective of completing the changes in January. We are working diligently to ensure our most tenured customers can take advantage of the feature as soon as possible, and we appreciate your patience and understanding. We are pleased that we were able to increase your download allowance by over 1GB per month at no charge, and as you see here, all users may now also save monthly free tokens. But of course we understand your frustration that not all of these free service enhancements are available to all users yet.

" . How long do I have to pay Hughes before I become 'Tenured'. I have diligently paid Hughes money every month for 6 years or more surely that makes me a "Tenured" customer, your term not mine. You have now put us down again as second class customers and I for one take that as an insult.SHAME ON YOU.   Perhaps you misunderstood the comment - there was no intent to put anyone down or create a second class.
  
  We have delivered these enhancements completely free of charge and have worked very hard to ensure even our oldest technology and most loyal customers such as you can enjoy them as soon as we are able to. Our only reason for delaying is that our legacy networks, which use older technology, require some adjustments in order to support additional usage, and enabling the feature before those adjustments are complete would result in worse performance for all users.
  
  I'm sorry we haven't been able to deliver these free upgrades to all users on legacy systems at the same time, but I hope you understand that it takes a significant investment to provide new features and functionality across a range of technologies.

  Apoligies are just words which it seems to me that Hughes is very good at using. ACTION is what we long time users are looking for. As for money investment that is what a business is supposed to do if they want to stay in business. So lets cut the crap and get the job done so that ALL customers get the SAME benefit and not just the NEWEST customers. Oh and by the way as for the intent the wording you used is the intent.   Les, did you read what he said? What would be the point of giving you an "enhancement" if it made your service worse? I think you can trust HN to want to retain customers. That is the bottom line. The subtext is probably the knowledge that bandwidth capacity is about to increase tenfold with Jupiter, and they can see being much more competitive with ground-based providers.   It is not a question of looking at the gift horse in the mouth it is about being treated as an equal. Most of the people that have been 'upgraded with the rollover' have not been with Hughes as long as most of us. THAT IS WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT.
  As I have said before, we ALL pay for this service, therefore we should ALL receive the service. THAT IS WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT. End of story.

  The bandwidth rollover isn't even giving you more allowance, it's just making it more flexible. The HN7000's hourly refill is a much friendlier option than the HN9000's daily reset for managing your personal bandwidth because you're never in a position where a whole chunk of unused bandwidth disappears. Install hnfapalert so that you don't ever go over limit and you can take it as close as you want. You're in exactly the same position as if you had rollover. You are NOT being cheated!

  You could just as well say that the HN9000 users were not being treated as equals because they didn't have a rolling refill like you. Even with rollover, HN9000 users still have unused bandwidth disappear every day.

This is another nice addition to the service. We don't have frequent problems with the download limit, but when we have the kids all back home for long weekends or holidays it sometimes becomes a factor. It will be nice to be able to dip into some of the unused tokens when that happens!

  I also like the fact that if you want you can just wait and download volume builds back up some in a matter of hours.I know they are trying to fix the problem.I just wish they had handled customer disappointment better about not being able to give the roll over service when they said to all the customers they told us would be getting it until later.Unexpected things happen but it should be a better effort to satisfy customers while they figure out how to make good on what they said in their postcards an emails and website about roll over bank.I don't think that is too much to ask.

I'm not sure how much a token is worth. When I need to update big main files, I really hate having to do it at 3AM because the system is so slow during daytime & it eats up all my time right away. So, is it really going to affect that much with a larger file update from Apple??? Apple doesn't permit us to set a download time automatically at lower use time, or at least I can't figure out how to by pass them other than getting up at 3AM. Any suggestions?

The free token is applied on your billing date. The Token Bank was launched on January 31, effective with your next billing date. So if your billing date is the 1st of the month, and if you had an unused token from January, then you should have 2 free tokens today. If your billing date is the 13th, then you haven't received February's token yet, but when you do, you can hang on to January's if you didn't use it. I hope that clarifies it a bit.

The free token is applied on your billing date. The Token Bank was launched on January 31, effective with your next billing date. So if your billing date is the 1st of the month, and if you had an unused token from January, then you should have 2 free tokens today. If your billing date is the 13th, then you haven't received February's token yet, but when you do, you can hang on to January's if you didn't use it. I hope that clarifies it a bit.

  Only if your billing date is the 13th. As the post above indicates, the feature was enabled January 31st - the next time you receive a Free Token (on your billing date), you will be able to keep an unused Free Token if you still had one from the previous month.

OK so my billing date is the 6th day of the month. So far this year I have received ONLY 1 rollover token. This months bill has been paid yet there is still no token in the bank. How long does it take for u people to get things right. Why do we always have to wait for things that u promise. I REALLY DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS COMPANY CAN STAY IN BUSINNESS. ROBBERS!

i am a HB7000S user and I just happened to look at my system control and saw my allowance had doubled. So keep checking cause I didn't even know down load bank had started for 7000 users. So I am not angry anymore.

All these improvements are great but still do not fulfill the promise made to me by Hughes that I would be able to use Skype. I live in the country, in the middle of nowhere, I have no telephone land line and no cell phone coverage; my electricity comes from solar panels, so my SOLE means of communicating is by satellite Internet and when I contracted the service with HN they assured me I could use VOIP without a problem. Now it seems that Wild Blue with their new satellite will allow me just to do that. Would HN gen4 do the same?

I am so confused...I don't want "tokens"...I want continuous service. I don't want it to slow down when the meter says I'm at 70% of my "daily" allowance. I have friends who pay $50 month for ATT and use their iPhones as a WiFi Hotspot...their internet is FASTER than mine and they don't have the constant spooling every time they try to view a YouTube Video. Since I retired, my internet use is way down but I cannot even get enough to maintain social networks and occasional video viewing. For $84/month I expect more...

  Penny, Satellite internet is not meant to compete head on against AT&T yet when it comes to data allowances. Due to the nature of building, maintaining, and launching the equipment for this type of service is very costly, and with that, a higher bill compared to other providers that only have to build a NOC, a few relays, and lay a few hundred miles of cable only once. Satellite, every few years, they have to launch a new one to do any form of upgrades. Hughesnet isn't meant for full length videos, but does work fine with a few clips of youtube here and there, but this will change when Gen4 goes public.

  This whole idea of tokens and roll over bank is such a farce. I have been with Hughes for over 7 years only because it was the only service available to me, all they ever do is play lip service to any comments or suggestions. BUT now I have a FASTER service at HALF the price with NO DOWNLOAD ALLOWANCE so GOOD BYE and GOODRIDDENCE to Hughes at last.

  Heard all these promises etc. too many times to believe them. After almost a year there is still no roll over for the 7000 users WHY. All we got were stupid tokens to keep us happy. Hughes is doing away with the 7000 just like they did with the 6000 so mark my words users you will be paying more for less with the Gen4 plans.

  They can't remove then HN7000 Les, because from my understanding, businesses and emergency services depend upon it for the event that a natural disaster occurs. Before HN7000 is gone, they will find a way to replace that system so that the modems can still stay semi-mobile.

A little off topic but another Hughes rep. told me about my new modem the HN 9000 and it was explained that the receive light is ok to blink consistently and i mean ping, ping, ping, with about a half second between and never stops. I was reading and liked several of your answers, and being new i thought i would ask again about this blinking light because my MacBook Air seems to be having an issue excepting the ethernet connection due to speed issues?. Also, i was reading about this Gen4, and i just configured my Mac to accept the IPv6 address in System Preferences - Network box. Is this due to the new satellite because i didn't really see where they talked about specific internet setting speeds just that it was lighting fast?. Thank You.

  It should auto-negotiate with your modem to either 10Mbps or 100Mbps and pull a standard IPv4 address from it as the HN9000 is a router and modem in one. No need for your LAN to accept or use IPv6.
  
  Gen4 has nothing to do with HN9000 modems, you need an entirely different modem and radio to pick up the Gen4 system, which has vastly different plans from the current system.
  
  Yes, it is normal for the receive and transmit lights to blink every other second or so, even when you are doing nothing. This is the satellite talking with the modem letting it know it is operational and is able to transmit data when requested.
  
  So exactly what is or isn't happening with your system? Is it related to the restore token thread any at all? :-\

Perhaps so, David Jude, but I've only just asked the question. Can you tell me? When you use a token does your status meter go all the way back to a full day's service or does it only go halfway.

At first I thought perhaps my computer was downloading updates or something and that's why it only went halfway. But after several times, I realize they're not giving me a full allowance. Only half. Which is still a major ripoff.
