Status Meter Download and Adobe Air Problem

  • Problem

  • Solved
So, I have attempted several times to download the meter so I can monitor my usage (which, btw, I wasn't told anything about when I originally called hughesnet and signed up for this service) because I work from home and absolutely need internet to do so and this meter will NOT download. I have read several other threads with others having this same issue yet nothing I've tried is working.
Since I work from home and the tracker I use requires Adobe Air I always have the latest version but in the interest of attempting to trouble shoot based on other threads I went ahead and removed my version and tried to download it through the tracker (which failed) so I went to the adobe site and downloaded the newest version again and then attempted to download the status meter, once again it failed.
Any other suggestions?

I had that problem when I first signed up a year ago but I can't remember now? If I'm not mistaken it was my firewall blocking it and I turned it off for the download. I think the appropriate port was blocked?

I just did an installation disc recovery today and downloaded Adobe Air and the Status meter and it went fine. But I did it before I installed my antivirus.

If that doesn't work it might be browser compatability? I downloaded on IE9 which I normally use Chrome. When I downloaded Chrome I had to do a Java update just for Chrome so it might be something like that.

If I were you I would make sure Adobe, Java and Air are up to date. Then clear your cookies and temp files. Then turn off you anti-virus firewall temporarily and try again. One of them ought to fix it.

Hi Ron
I tried turning off my firewall and no its still telling me I need to download the newest version of Adobe Air which I already have. I know because a previous thread started by someone else it was stated that they removed their adobe air and then downloaded it again so I tried that myself. Update and current edition was downloaded today (even though i already had the newest version of air because my job requires that I use a tracker that goes off adobe air and I'm constantly updating that thing).
I use chrome, I NEVER use explorer and am not sure why I would be stuck having to use IE in order to download this tool. I will check if i have a java update for chrome though.

The more I think about it, it was the Java update. Chrome runs on 32 bit while the other browsers run on 64 bit. Go here and download the 32 bit version. It won't effect the 64bit version you already have.

Hi crickett - it sounds like you've done some research here ...were you able to figure out what's going on? Are you getting any kind of an error message that says it won't download or is it that nothing happens? If you haven't called us yet let us run some tests with you by calling 866 347 3292. If you've called already please post your case number so that I can look at the notes on your account. Thanks, Sara

Hi sara
So I tried the java download that Ron spoke of (the 64 bit) and that downloaded and went and attempted to download the meter again and no dice. When I go to download the status meter it says "Installing this application requires adobe AIR which will also be downloaded and installed. Press yes to continue" I press yes and then I get the error message that says "A Download error occurred. Try to download again?" and two boxes under that which says "retry" and "cancel" I click retry and immediately get the same message that a download error occurred.
Now, as i stated before I already have the latest version of Adobe air since I am an independent contractor and the site I work through has a time keeper that runs of AIR and is continuously updated when needed so I'm not sure what the problem is.
I have not called customer service about this issue though.
Now if i click cancel instead of retry I get the message "Installing now, please wait while the application installs" but it never actually does install

hm... something sounds fishy here... I haven't seen this before but it's possible our agents have. It sounds like there's something going on with Adobe here. One question: are you a Gen4 customer? and if so... where are you triggering the download manager download? If you're not going to my.hughesnet.com please try that.

Yes, I'm a gen 4 user and I'm accessing it from myhughesnet.com. On the customer service page there's a link that says "dowload status meter" that I click and it then takes me to another page and on the far left it has the status meter download

Crickett, were you a Hughes customer who upgraded to Gen4? If so, you have to uninstall the old meter in order to install the new meter.

No I'm not a old member, I've been a member for about a month and got the gen4 from installation so there's not an old meter to uninstall.
As for the . between my and hughes, I haven't had any issue getting into hughesnet to check my account manually. I just can't download the meter on the site.

I believe I cracked the code on downloading the status meter after reading many posts on this...

I read you have to have java 32bit - which I do. I read you can't install on chrome due to it running java 64 bit - which I had been. I tried running on Internet Explorer (IE) which didn't work either. But, then I realized I was using IE (64 bit) so I tried IE (32 bit) and it WORKED!! I was told you should disable your anti-virus which I didn't. I use Symantec Endpoint Protections and do have my "Network Threat Protection" disabled...but that's it.

in short, it worked when I opened my.hughesnet.com in good ole' IE (not the 64 bit version).

Side note, I don't know why we are going through all this trouble because all you get is the same green and blue circle graph showing ANYTIME and BONUS BYTES percentages. Heck, you can just get that when you log into the website. All this trouble really for nothing!!!

Last, and I think I'll move over to another post on this new complaint.... BUT I find my ANYTIME download gigabytes depleting when I do MOST of my downloading from 2-8am!! Last two nights I've downloaded over 3gb of "Stuff" and my BONUS (2-8am) percent is at 100 and my ANYTIME is at 63%. Explain that one to me?!?!?

Spence,r I had my suspicions of that too! I was wondering why my meter would reset and was always 100%. All of a sudden my ANYTIME meter is reading 38% and I do my major downloaded between 2-8am so my BONUS bytes would be used. Guess what percent my BONUS bytes is....you guessed it 100%!! Yes, some downloading is conducted during normal hours but my download usage bars are pretty much pegged the last week from 2-8am and it's still 100% today!

I was VERY HAPPY when they were resetting us every day. My meter is working. Don't know if it is true or not though. I haven't been able to see my usage since the 15th of November. It shows no usage. I know that's not right. My meter shows I only have 72% left.

I am having trouble downloading the Gen4 status meter on a new computer. Had problems on old computer and called. They had me use Firefox and it worked. On new computer using Firefox I click on "download" and immediately get error message "Unable to load the Adobe Air browser API swf". If someone has a fix for this I'd rather not call help desk.

Hey all...had the same problem after installation of new Gen4 service (replaced old service). Following is my solution:
1 - Uninstall old Status Meter (if you had it from old standard service)
2 - Manually update or install Adobe AIR V3.5 from here: http://get.adobe.com/air/
3 - Install new Status Meter by downloading from here: http://downloads.hughesnetforums.com/... ***Note: this is a direct link bypassing the Adobe Air install. Once downloaded you will need to open and install.

Good luck

This is a post from david another HughesNet customer so I can't take credit but it did work for me. :)

Really, I've moved on from the fact that i can't download this meter. I have the meter in IE, as i was walked through that by the support desk. Problem is i despise IE, never use it and never open it so the fact that i was able to download the meter in IE means exactly squat. If there's going to be a meter it should work regardless of the browser and I already feel like i've wasted enough of my all too precious download allowance on installing and uninstalling and re-installing in order to make this thing work

Crickett,

I posted this (below) around 3 weeks ago. It worked! Yes, you'll need to use IE for the download and install of the meter but after that you can go back to whatever browser you use; I use chrome. But, bite the bullet, use IE for the download/install and move on!

GOOD LUCK!

Please default to the following option to monitor your usage if you continue to have concerns regarding downloading the status meter:

- Access the sytem control center, by typing 192.168.0.1 into the browser and hit ENTER.

- Once in the SCC, you will see Download Allowance Status.

- Click the Download Allowance Statuslink to be provided with a graph that show current usage in real time.

Until adobe air is successfully installed, this may be a good option for you. Also, please note that not being able to download Adobe Air has to do with the browser being used. Please try a different browser if you are unable to successfully download. I hope this helps some. Suz

removing posts such as mine is utter ********. i was trying to let people know that it is not just a couple of days that usage is reset and you replied with your typical hughesnet ****. at least in my case, you are wrong about how long the reset is done. before removing comments and giving false information you may want to ask the one person at hughesnet (if that person exists) what the story really is. hughesnet really needs to get their act together in terms of reliability of information.another example for you to check out although it might have changed since i looked. on the gen 4 page there is a link to FAQs. this points to the old FAQ file for the old system. it is completely wrong with respect to gen 4. *** has no one removed this link or provided a proper one? hughsnet is full of this sort of sloppiness. everything has to be done in a complicated way that maximizes the chance of failure. if i try to spread some information that took me a lot of effort to finally get, people like you remove it. this system is impossible.

spencer, please reread my post above where I stated "your data allowance is periodically refilled during the day." Also, your statement that "to make sure you think the service is great and do not terminate during the trial period" is completely false. I explained that we do this to allow the downloading of system updates. Please note that callous posts are not helpful and they will be removed. It's our intention to make this community a self-help space for all users. Suz

I fail to see where Spencer giving his opinion is causing this to not be a self help space for others. At the bottom of each box to post there is a little smiley area and asks "How does this make you feel?" under that it says:"Get emotional, Describe how this topic makes you feel. Pick a face to let everybody know how you feel". By deleting all of spencers comments that are less then favorable to Hughesnet you are basically saying how we feel about the service provided to us from Hughesnet really doesn't matter. That we either pick the happy face or aren't welcome to post at all.Let me tell you, I started this topic and have yet to resolve my issues with this meter and pretty much got tired of wasting my "allowance" on a meter that probably won't matter in the long run anyway. My allowance is gone within days of it being refilled anyway. Truth be told, Spencer may not have nice things to say about hughesnet but he's giving you Honest to goodness, genuine feedback about how a good portion of your customers actually feel (myself included). I just don't care enough about Hughesnet long term survival to give you the feedback. I will say that the reviews online in regards to Hughesnet are unfavorable and I myself tell everyone I can not to ever use the service. Once my contract is up, i'm out of here and won't look back. This has been one of the worst experiences i've ever had with an internet service provider. If you care about your jobs at all, you will take the less then favorable comments made by the spencers back to your bosses and push for change. Otherwise, Hughesnet will go away just like so many other companies who pay no attention to their customers.I, personally, am sick of seeing the comments like Spencers deleted and I've held my tongue for long enough.

Ray, my post above does work. I assume you are using windows? Make sure you are using 32 bit Internet Explorer for the download and install.. Then, if you use another browser, you can go back to using it. Just an FYI, meter is out of sync with the support center and control center meters. Who knows what is right? I've been told, on another post, that the control center is accurate, but I'm not convinced.
GOOD LUCK!
