I've been getting more "Failure to connect to web server" errors. The one that is driving me nuts is trying to connect to http://support.cucusoft.com. I've contacted the company and they say there is nothing wrong on their site. I've tried it using MS internet explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla, and Safari. I've tried typing and pasting it in and clicking on links. Now that I've also tried it from my husbands computer I'm sure it must have something to to with HughesNet. Do I have to call HugheNet to get this fixed? Thanks.

I have had the same problem and have discovered that if i go into my hn9000 control panel, click on the little man icon and then go to the upper right and select restart and keep the hard reboot selection that suddenly I can access the sites that previously I could not. I am especially sensitive to this as I host some websites on a virtual server. When the problem occures it makes all of my sites unavailable to me(others who do not have huges can access these just fine. some of my customers who have huges have the same problem and the same solution works. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why???
anybody have any clues?

Naw, this is a long standing Hughes problem. Network wide. I'm not sure why they're not tackling it. If it's bad enough, you can switch to a free DNS address. There's a little more delay in fetching pages, but at least you usually get the whole page the first time.

Elijah and Grohfgreg, if you could please post your latest case number pertaining to your call regarding this, I'd like to look into your notes to see which websites you're trying to access and what we've done so far to address this.

Which systems are you on? Have you attempted to disable your turbopage (HN7000 and HN9000 systems) or web acceleration (Gen4 systems)?

If you haven't called us yet please do so at 866 347 3292 and then post your case number here. Thank you, Sara

I have the same issue! The only workaround that I have is to turn off the turbopage, then all web browsing is very slow. I have reported this issue, but the techs insist its my computer that is the problem. I have three computer, one of which is a Ubuntu OS and they all have the same issue not reaching websites. I have a laptop that I tested in both places (work and home). At Home the laptop can't reach www.newspaperarchive, but at work the laptop can reaches the site just fine.

Bill,
You are responding to a very old thread...however..it is a very old problem.
Your issue has been ongoing since "Day One" with Hughes.
It has been said (and to a point, is true) that there are many reasons for your problem.
From a customer perspective OUR problem is Hughes will never admit to anything OTHER than your equipment or your problem.

Bill, you can post a case number and the (edit) Forum Mods on the forum will do their best to help...but...its Hughes my friend...it is a way of life.

Hughes despite all the Hype is a hobbyist type of ISP...."Internet Lite" at best, not to be confused with a Real ISP.
Everything I have seen at Hughes is done on a shoestring budget. The shortcomings are going to show up.

The options:
Live with it, work around it, find another ISP...but accept that Hughes IS and will remain the Hughes you see.

Post a case number, take some Maalox and keep your expectations low.

Gwalk900, I am trolling this forum tonight just like you. I agree with some of what you say some of the time.

I don't care for the "Girls" remark. A bit old fashioned and sexist from my perspective.

You don't seem like someone I would care to have a beer with. There are other regulars here I wish I could.

Steve,
I'm sorry if you were offended by my use of the word Girls in quotes.
I will indeed edit that.
I want you to know that those of us that have been Hughes customers and frequent posters on the forum have "almost come to know" and respect the forum Mods and I only used the term in the most respectful manner.
It is not possible to inject "inflection" in tone in a written enviroment.

I do believe that Both Sara & Suz do a terrific job here on the forum. I may not always agree with them but that is far different from what you are implying.

As far as the "Beer" remark....you may or may not be justified in feeling that way but, I'm good with it.
Have a Great Day and again, sorry if I offended you.

This problem still persists, i have found that if i "reset" turbopage the problem clears for a while, sometimes a complete modem reboot is necessary. It is some kind of problem in their DNS cache, as near as I can figure. It becomes corrupted and fails to work for multiple nodes in the system.

Have you tried opening a command prompt and doing a flush dns ?

what would the cmd line look like, i may have in the past but not reciently- i would like to try it to seei if could be a local issue......of course there is a router in the mix too, but it really seems like the hughes modem issue as the reset turbopage nearly always solves the problem

Well, connect directly, bypass the router, would be first choice. I'll search the dns flush command for you if you'd like.

You are 110% sure you have a clean system?

yes its clean and it does not matter what box i am using so the dns flush is irrelevant is it not?

also i have tested with and without router its the modem....hn9000 modem....or perhaps IT has a cache on the satilte...i have no idea

I am not sure why Sara reposted my message, however the problem does persist.
For example I almost never can get to my accounts at fiverr.com
Just today, i purchased a product from monster.com which required i create an account so do resume serches. Upon trying to log in I get the unavailable message or the connection to the server has been reset message.
Fortunately, i have a webserver I can connect remotely to with remote desktop. Of course the latency is doubled, but still i can check out the availability of the sites I cannot reach. the only think i have been able to figure out is reseting turbo page or doing the hard reboot of the whole system. sometimes this work, but it does not ever seem to work with fiverr.com and my monster .com account.
I live with it....like a bad marriage with a bunch of kids......(not that i have that problem) It has cost me countless hours in tech support which promised me a lot but delivered little and unmeasurable time and frustration....but its the only option i have at this time (wild blue aside....but thats not the answer)
its a big world with lots of sites and issues i guess.....i could go back to dial up :P
:)
by the way, i did try the dns flush and determined that it was not the issue. good tool for the tool box though.
also, regarding the repost above, i later detemined that the easiest quick fix most of the time is simply "reseting" turbopage by clicking on the little man in the control center 192.168.0.1, just to the right of 'what do these controls mean' then looking on the left navigation bar for turbopage, expanding the + then expandint control and select the reset radio button..... it solves many problems for me on the fly, like once every 3 or three days...... but its real quick once you get the hang of it.
Good luck everyone, i have tolerated this for....wow ...11 years....and still have a few hairs left.....

Resetting the turbo page doesn't work for me. Turning off the turbo page does work so I can get to the site I'm having trouble reaching, however the connection is terribly slow and is not a viable workaround. The DNS flush is not an option as this is not a computer related issue. Every computer I connect to my home network fail to reach the site I need, however the laptop connects has no problem connecting to the www.newspaperarchive.com site from my work network without issue.

I can reach the newspaperarchive.com site but i cannot get through the login process at monster.com without
The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

this was with firefox i get simlar errors with chrome and ie-yet if i go to my server (remote desk top into it) which is not relying on hughes net except for my administrative connection, i have no problem......kind of makes me CRAZY :)

Strange you, Elijah, can reach the newspaperarchive site and I can't! Again, I can reach the site from my work network, but the same laptop on my home network can not. I have tried with and without the router that sits between my computer the Hughes sat modem, HN9000 and still can't access the above site. I have reset my router back to factory defaults, no change. I have tried with Windows XP and 7 and Ubuntu, no change. I have tried different browsers on different computers ... no change. The Newspaperarchive is a paid research tool I use for genealogy research and here I can't used it.

i think that hughes has a complex system of "switches" and perhaps dns lookup zones as they service around the world. It is a complex system not just a pipe to the internet.....i really understand your frustration and would love hughes would explain it, even if they cannot fix it.....
I wonder if you could use some kind of proxy isp to access your site.

for example if i build a web page with an i frame that has the site you are looking for you may be able to access it.......i set up a test here:
http://mytowncommons.com/Home.aspx let me know the results, its on the bottom of the page

Yes, once it comes back on line! But the point is every sense it was out for that 18-20 hours, I have had this happen not before! Now it will be working fine and then when I try to open a page it will instantly say page can not be found, than a refresh will and it will load! Sometimes the load will be wrong, everything on the left side of the screen, or if not that parts will say could not load! And my favorite {the connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.}Before the long outage my signal strength was 165-172 sense highest it gets is117 that makes a BIG difference in bad weather! I tried to call Don the guy that set it up but he never answered my messages! I would think a technician, could check the modem and read the logs himself!
