Hughesnet Gen4 vs. ViaSat Excede
Will "Hughesnet Gen4" be bettery than "ViaSat Excede"? The info I'm getting is that Excede will be much cheaper and offer 12 Mbps download/3Mbps upload... WOW! It's like I could download movies, play games online, etc. like everbody else in town using cable and DSL.

CHAMP0The almost unanimous consensus is that Excede is a huge disappointment. Yes, speeds are higher, but caps are lower and prices are the same. You may be able to watch a few movies a month, but FAP lasts for the rest of the month. FAP speeds may be ok for browsing still, but that's untested.
IMHO, the current HN service is still better than Excede, and will probably be a lot better with Gen4.

Interesting situation I'm in having both WB, HN and Cellcom cellular wireless and ask why haha, just a hermit "Home Alone" from a movie.
Because I can.
So just called Dish Network and cancelled my fulfilled 2 year contract WB.
Excede will be installed Tuesday 6 March about noon.
So knowing me will be some accurate test reports coming.
A drop from 17GB to 15GB means nothing to me, $84 plan (sales tax).
HN is another 2 months contract, possible Jupiter might make me sorry ?
Who knows without testing.
Ouch doubtful will be the 5 hour free zone ?
As all users have their own surfing demands with the wonders of the internet, mine does NOT include heavy movie downloads, that is left to Dish Network should I wish for a movie.
Btw they gave me HBO for $6 monthly, the Sopranos, 6 feet Under and Sex in the City were special in the past along with others.
Too be continued
Be sure not to confuse speed with bandwidth. Just because you can download all the data you want at a high speed does not mean you can download all the data you want without penalty! Super speeds only mean you will hit your "wall" sooner than later if you do not carefully monitor what you download. The below statement is soooo wrong!:
"WOW! It's like I could download movies, play games online, etc. like everybody else in town using cable and DSL"
While you might have the speed, you won't have the bandwidth and if you try to use your satellite service like others use cable or DSL you will either be hit with huge overage charges or get your service cut back (FAP) in short order. If they use a monthly FAP like Wildblue, that means you could be with little or no service for weeks at a time until your refill hits!
Do we have any idea on the prices of the new service, will there be a token reset like we have now, will there be a FAP free download period, and how much will this new equipment cost current customers? If not, you may not want to wait too long to announce, Hughes, as some of us are getting anxious. You wouldn't want to lose customers for two years to Exede (funny that their name seems to want you to go over your FAP???). I honestly might have already been gone if they offered the FAP free period and a way to reset my service if I go over. Let us know soon please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, I read a post by a HN employee that they had no plans to drop it but I would feel better with an official announcement from HN. They have hinted around that all the improvements they have added recently will still exist as well. If that is the case, I think I can tough it out a few more months. So HN, let's get the announcements rolling already!!!
I assure you David doesn't work for HN or I anyone else except for the Employees.
Since they took away my champ sticker, now picture looks prettier haha
Big deal I went from 17GB to 15GB a loss of 2 is not a deal breaker.
2 months now with seeing NO congestion slow down unlike HN, many are hurting.
Testing with HN since I only have 1 month remaining on contract.
15-17Mb/s, over at Speak Easy seeing up to 19mbps so who do you trust haha
Btw Excede DAP/FAP meter is broken so enjoy some fun.
I suspect they don't even need it for a long time, why not with that awesome band width ability, give the system a good test.
