No, satellite internet will NEVER "support" online gaming that requires low latency connections. The best latency you can get with satelite is ~600ms. That is ideal in a perfect world.

Can you connect and game using Gen4? Most likely, but don't expect games to work fine with the high latency.

I appreciate your answer @ CORROSIVEand thanks for your input, but I was hoping to get an answer from Hughes Net. If its not going to be able to support it then I am going to leave and find internet that can support online gaming. So ATTN: HUGHES NET, please let me know? I have been a faithful customer for over two years, I'm not asking for much, just online capability. We can't play games, watch movie's online, etc. At this point, Hughes Net isn't much better than dial up!

Yep, latency will always be your doom with satellite. Even the best satellite can not overcome the speed of light.
Those with cable and 100ms latency will crush you.

If you can find an alternative to satellite, it is going to be a better option for you. As Kidd say...if you can use wireless with 3G or 4G...that is about the best you are going to do in rural areas. Latency is also going to be high on satellite due to physics. Yes, download speeds will increase with Gen4. But think of it like this. It will still take awhile for the signal to get to you. Once it gets to your house it will load fast...but it still takes awhile to get to you.

Hi Jonathan, thanks for the post and we have addressed this here http://www.hughesnet.com/index.cfm?pa... to make sure all customers know about real-time gaming latency and why it isn't recommended with any satellite service before they sign-up for HughesNet. Games that require fraction-of-a-second user data such as massive multi-player and real-time gaming are not recommended. With satellite service your data travels across a network path up to the satellite and back which adds about a half-second delay to the time it takes to communicate with the game's web or host server. I hope this helps to explain why certain games may not function. Please let us know if you have any additional concerns. Thank you, Suz

I don't know what the rules on posting links here is so i won't. But If you Google "[Networking] Online Gaming on HughesNet" the first result is a big thread with a lot of information about what games can and can't be played on Hughesnet.

Yep, it boils down to how critical latency is to the particular game. If it requires 200-400ms then will never work right with satellite. If it is more lenient with regards to latency then it will probably work but you'll still get destroyed by those with much lower latency in real-time multiplayer co-op gaming.
Of course single player games should be fine in all cases.

But I wonder why we have a download meter. If we're not going to be able to do things like play online games on our consoles, mmo games on the internet, etc. then the least they could do is not let us be limited. I can barely watch videos on youtube cause it takes so long to load. I was. But It seems like these comments are half and half because one guy here said his games work perfect so I'll still try the gen 4 with a good router possibly and see how it goes from there.

And some of my friends use hughes net and their internet works just fine for their online purposes like gaming and such so it might either be where they live or it's because they have the gen 4.

I can't play on Xbox live at all and I'll be lucky if a website even loads. I had better Internet than this we're I used to live and hughsnet gen4 cost way more than my other service. It would be ok if it was unlimited rather than limited.

Are you aware that both game systems have been under repeated attack ?

Are you aware that you are posting/replying to a three year old thread ?

Perhaps you would be better served by creating a new topic, specific to your problem that outlines your issue, modem type, service plan and any errors shown in your modems SCC including your remaining data allowance.
